Top 5 Favourite Malayalam Movies of 2018

I am a complete movie buff. Don’t know if it is a coincidence or not, but my husband is also the same. We try not to miss any good movies. Without much introduction, lemme get right into my top 5 favourite Malayalam movies from the year 2018.

It undoubtedly is one of the best movies of Fahad Fazil, so far. It is a movie with a good blend of everything sugar and spice. The climax actually gave me goosebumps! The theatre was full of claps and whistles in the last twenty minutes. I did too. Didn’t even bother if it is my husband or my kids or my in-laws sitting next to me.

Varathan is a technically and visually brilliant movie. How can it go wrong when it’s an Amal Neerad – Fahad Fazil combo! Did I mention that I am a hardcore Fahad fan? But no, it’s not because I like him, but it truly deserves to be on top.

Joseph – Man with the Scar

Yet another thriller and this one is a turning point in Joju George’s career for sure. Joju showed an over-the-top performance which was kinda unexpected. He conceived the character Joseph as it is and acted with such ease!

Joseph is a well scripted simple movie which will not let you down. Oh, it has four beautiful songs as well, which very well synchronises with the movie.

Sudani from Nigeria

Sudani is a difficult-to-miss kinda movie. It has everything from friendship to the sports culture of a particular place to family relationships. There is barely a dull moment in the movie.

Not just Majeed (Soubin) and Samual (the Sudani actor). But the two ummichis, Jameela and Beeyumma acted so well. Even though there is not even a single dialogue to showcase the relationship between Majeed and his stepfather, it is clear what actually is happening. Overall, it is a feel-good movie and worth a watch.

Ee.Ma.Yau is a brilliant masterpiece from a simple storyline. A very realistic one, realistic to the core, I must say. Excellent casting, acting, cinematography and what not! When it comes to acting, everyone from the main actors to the ones doing the least important role has given their very best. One thing to mention is that most of the actors are new faces.

But, I also have to admit the fact that Ee.Ma.Yau is not an entertainer and not everyone will like it.

Njan Prakashan

Njan Prakashan is yet another realistic movie from Sathyan Anthikad.
I was sure I am going for this movie when I watched its trailer for the first time, it was so appealing. Everyone acted so well and Teenamol (Devika) didn’t give us the feeling that it’s her debut movie and she could make us laugh and cry all at the same time.

Well, Njan Prakashan is a complete family entertainer. In other words, it is yet another feel-good movie and someone like me can never miss watching.
