I have been writing blog posts, Facebook posts, Instagram posts etc on babywearing and I am happy that I am getting a lot of positive feedbacks and queries regarding the same. And I am totally happy that many are getting inspired by me and have started babywearing. But there are some myths about babywearing and I want (at least) you to know what exactly the truth is. I really hope this article helps.
Myth 1: Babywearing is done only once the baby is a few months old!
The first thing one should understand is that there are different types of carriers and certain types of carriers can be used from the very first day. Soul Wraps, Ring Slings and Anoonas, and their Standard Full Buckle Carriers with an infant insert can be used from day one.
Myth 2: You are torturing your baby/ kid!
You are no way torturing your baby by wearing her/him if you are doing it the right way. But yes, you get to hear that a lot. I had to hear something similar from an unknown lady once! I went to a local shop wearing my the tiny one in the carrier who was sleeping peacefully there and the lady in the shop literally asked me why can’t I just let the baby breathe properly!! This isn’t just a myth, it is a misconception as well. The truth is that there will be enough air passage if you wear them the right way. Just make sure that you follow the T.I.C.K.S rule for safe babywearing.
Myth 3: Babywearing will harm your back and hips!
You might have back pain if you wear your babies the wrong way. Again make sure you follow the T.I.C.K.S. rule to avoid these. When done right, you will be able to distribute the baby’s weight equally across your back, making it super easy to carry them. Also, you should understand that everyone (and every baby) has different body types and you should find out that perfect carrier for you both and buy it.
Myth 4: Your baby will take a long time to start walking!
I know moms who have carried their babies extensively and those kids have started walking even before their first birthday. And I have my own elder kid who took 15 months to start walking!! Now you know this myth is nothing but a bullshit!!
Myth 5: Small and lean moms shouldn’t babywear!
I am a small as well as a lean mommy myself and I very well know the difference. It’s much much better and convenient to wear your baby than simply carrying them with your bare hands!! I stopped carrying my younger one the other way since I started wearing her simply because it makes the whole process super easy.
